ALL NATURAL

By Anne De Zeeuw

All natural

When I woke up this morning, I needed a split second to realize where I was. I looked out of my window and saw a mango tree, “obviously I am not at my home in Holland” I thought. I smiled as I am happy and thankful to wake up every morning in the beautiful country of Nicaragua. I walked downstairs to pick up a mango that fell from the tree to make myself a smoothie for breakfast. I started thinking how amazingly fresh the food is here, and how much people nowadays get used to eating processed foods.
A lot of people think of a developing country from a negative perspective, as if the country is still missing something. But often we do not realize that with development, traditions and habits get lost. The new habits, traditions, and developments are not per definition better than the old ones. To me development does not necessesarily mean progress or a higher quality of life. You realize that when traveling from a modern country and exporing a developing country like Nicaragua.
When exploring Nicaragua you will soon discover the rawness it has and the benefits of that. All the food comes straight from the source. It is of course possible to get imported products, but the best food here is the typical food. Fruits full of anti oxidants like the Pitaya. Or what about the freshly baked mais tortillas, plucked plantains, cacao beans, coffee, passion fruit, chicken, mango, carrot, or yuca. I could sit here until tomorrow and write a list of all the healthy (super) foods this country has to offer. Not only is it straight from the source, it’s also organic!

One of my good friends, that also lived here for a while, told me that after eating all the fresh foods in Nicaragua, she got an upset stomach after eating the foods back home.  She said her body felt less bloated and in better shape when she was in Nicaragua.
So the common thought about a developing country, that eating fresh food from the street is dangerous for your stomach, is in this case actually backwards.  I recommend eating as many typical food, straight from the source, as you can when you come visit. And if you don’t feel like preparing it yourself, come visit Nicaragua with SurfNicaWaves and let us make you an amazing, fresh, home cooked dish with whatever you like! Or come detox and we will even teach you how to prepare the fresh food. Come see how Nicaragua keeps it all natural…
